UV Chorale to perform at Halad Museum
CEBU, Philippines - The University of the Visayas Chorale, considered by many artists as one of the best in the country, will be performing at the JRG Halad Museum as part of the Gabii sa Kabilin 2012.
The chorale will serenade museum visitors with fresh arrangements of all-time favorite Visayan songs that they have performed during their various concerts here and abroad. The mini-concerts are scheduled at 7pm, 8:30pm and at 10pm. Tickets for the Gabii sa Kabilin are available at the JRG Halad Museum at P150 each.
The award-winning chorale is also preparing for a European tour where they are expected to join different choir contests in Spain and Italy from September to November this year, one of which is a contest in Rimini, Italy in October.
UV Executive Vice President Jose “Dodong” R. Gullas, and his wife Nena, who is the choir manager, are hopeful that the UV Chorale can come up with the necessary funds for the said tour.
“It is an honor for the university to be able to send the chorale to these contests, especially since they are the first Cebuanos who will participate in such choir events. However, my biggest headache now is to raise funds for them,” he said, adding that to help the choir raise funds, he will be sending letters to different families in Cebu so the choir can serenade them.
“We will knock on the hearts of people and serenade them with beautiful songs so the UV Chorale can raise funds. We hope that they can help us. Any amount will do,” he added.
Since they will be embarking on the European tour, the UV Chorale also expressed interest in taking part in the different activities related to the canonization of Blessed Pedro Calungsod in Rome this coming October.
“Again, it would be an honor for the UV Chorale to be able to sing for Blessed Pedro Calungsod,” Gullas said. (FREEMAN)
