Ylanan's recall to DEPW pushed

- Jessica Ann R. Pareja -

CEBU, Philippines - Acting Cebu City Building Official Josefa Ylanan will soon be recalled to her mother unit and go back to her function as assistant department head of the Department of Engineering and Public Works.

City Administrator Jose Marie Poblete said that the consultants on systems improvement have recommended for the compliance of the ordinance which mandates that the Building Official should be the City Engineer, in this case, City Engineer Kenneth Enriquez.

Poblete did not discuss other reasons for the plan to recall Ylanan because he said it is still subject of the approval of Mayor Michael Rama.

The mayor, he said, however has already been informed verbally and approved the idea in principle. Nothing is final though until the mayor issues a memorandum.

The decision to recall Ylanan back to DEPW was discussed following the passage of the ordinance creating OBO as a separate department. OBO is currently under the DEPW as one of the divisions.

The increasing number of developments in Cebu City and the increasing workload of the OBO deemed it proper by the council to make it a separate department.

Making it a separate department will allow OBO to hire more personnel and be appropriated bigger funds for its operation.

The ordinance is not in effect yet. Until such time that the mayor appoints a department head for OBO, Enriquez is recommended to head the office. – (FREEMAN)
