CEBU, Philippines - One hundred fifty three student leaders from Talisay City joined the first ever Talisay City Student Leaders’ Congress (TSLC) held at the Girl Scouts Camp, in Barangay Lahug, Cebu City last Monday.

Talisay City Administrator Richel Bacaltos said that the three-day activity aims to harness the effectiveness of student leaders since the congress is composed of seminars and interpersonal lectures with topics on Philippine Biodiversity, Entrepreneurial Skills, Project Proposal Making and Communication Skills.

Participants were also expected to produce an output at the end of every session.

“Since they will be coming up with projects in their schools, they can materialize and concretize what they learned in the camp,” Bacaltos said.

About P250 thousand was allotted for the event and was funded by the Talisay City Council and Department of Education Talisay City Division in cooperation with support groups and sponsorship from the private sector.

Talisay City Mayor Socrates Fernandez graced the event and said that student leadership should be given emphasis.

“Leadership comes from the youth. That will also lead the youth,” Fernandez said.

With the theme, “I am a leader, I make things happen” the student leaders’ congress is expected to wrap up today.

The City Council provided 24-hour security assistance for the delegates’ three-day stay while house rules were also implemented for full monitoring.

National Federation Supreme Student Council President Fritzie Mae Faller said that the activity is a good start for aspiring leaders. She believed that Talisay City is blessed with potential student leaders.

“Congress like these helps in molding talented ones into extraordinary leaders,” Faller said.

The Talisay City Council is planning to hold the next leadership congress a little earlier next year. —(FREEMAN)
