Comelec-7 has new director

- Garry B. Lao -

CEBU, Philippines - The Commission on Elections has appointed a new regional director in Central Visayas to replace former director Rey Rene Buac who passed away last year because of cardiac arrest.

Comelec chairman Sixto Brillantes has already signed an en banc resolution appointing Atty. Temmie Lambino as the new Comelec-7 director.

Lambino is currently the provincial comelec supervisor in Pangasinan. With Lambino’s appointment, acting regional director Veronico Patalcorin will be back to his original position as the assistant regional director.

Lambino is scheduled to formally assume office within the week.

Meanwhile, the Comelec has urged qualified voters to register for the upcoming midterm elections.

Cebu City election officer Marchel Sarno said they are expecting registrants to start coming in next month. The Comelec has scheduled the resumption of the continuing registration on May 3 until October this year. Sarno said the city has 225,000 registered voters so far, but the number is expected to increase after the registration deadline.

Sarno also reiterated the commission’s call for other registrants, especially the youth to be a part of the upcoming political exercise by filing their registration and being counted during the elections.

For those who intend to change or transfer from other city or municipalities, he or she must be a registered voter of the place where he or she formerly resides.

In the event that they want to transfer in other voting municipality, they must be a resident of the barangay where she presently resides and intend to vote for at least six months, unless otherwise disqualified by law.—(FREEMAN)
