Man stabbed dead after fight over his cousin

CEBU, Philippines - A man who got into a fight over his cousin was stabbed to death by their neighbor early morning yesterday in Barangay Poblacion Oriental, Consolacion town.

Jonosis Semblante, 20, sustained multiple stab wounds in different parts of his body after he was stabbed repeatedly by the alleged assailant identified as Elicar Lalaguna, 32.

Senior Insp. Wilbert Parilla, Consolacion police chief, said they had a hard time accounting for the stab wounds on Jonosis due to the blood that covered his body.

Jonosis was rushed to the Eversley Child Sanitarium in Barangay Jagobiao, Mandaue City, but he was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Prior to the incident, Parilla said around 3 a.m. Lalaguna brought Jimmy Semblante, 23, to the police station and told the police that Jimmy punched him. Jimmy appeared to be drunk at the time.

Parilla said Jimmy stayed in the police station until he sobered up.

Lalaguna went home around 5 a.m. where he was confronted by Jonosis who asked him why he took Jimmy to the police station.

The confrontation became a heated argument and Lalaguna went home only to return with a knife. He then stabbed Jonosis several times.

Lalaguna was gone by the time policemen arrived.

Police are now preparing criminal charges against Lalaguna. –(FREEMAN)
