New building for Parian police

- Rene U. Borromeo -

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Police Station 1 also known as the Parian Police Station will soon have a new building a few months from now, Mayor Michael Rama said yesterday.

Rama said he and officials of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry are set to sign a memorandum of agreement tomorrow for the realization of the project.

This will be the fifth police station building to be constructed by businessmen in line with Rama’s Adopt-a-Police Station program.

Since the PNP lacks the budget to build new buildings for the police, Rama asked businessmen to help solve the problem.

He said this time the Aboitiz Group of Companies will shoulder the expenses of the project on behalf of the CCCI.

The CCCI-member companies already constructed police station buildings for the police stations in barangays Mabolo for Station 4, Waterfront for Station 3, San Nicolas for Station 6 and Osmeña Boulevard for Station 2.

Most of the police stations in Cebu City are just squatting in barangay halls and other government-owned buildings; Police Station 11 and Station 10 are squatting at the Barangay Halls in Mambaling and Punta Princesa, respectively, while the Police Station 7 and Police Station 5 are at the Pardo Public Market and the Carbon Public Market, respectively.

Only the Police Station 9 in Barangay Guadalupe has its own building. Rama said after the Parian Police Station, he will work for the construction of either the Carbon Police Station or the Pardo Police Station.

Rama also said he will pursue his plan to reshuffle the policemen in Cebu City to avoid familiarization between the police and suspected criminals, he said he will not allow police officials to bring their own trusted personnel to their new assignments.  (FREEMAN)
