Trisikad driver shot dead; two injured in separate shootings
CEBU, Philippines - A trisikad driver was killed while a man was wounded in two separate shooting incidents in Cebu City on Friday afternoon.
Noel Gadiano, 33, of Barangay Inayawan, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds on different parts of his body, while Rey Ann Cabrinez, 26, of Jones Ave., Barangay Sambag 1 was injured.
In the Inayawan incident, Gadiano was attending to his trisikad when two unidentified men onboard a motorcycle suddenly approached him.
The back rider reportedly got off from the motorcycle, approached and shot the victim at close range for no apparent reason.
Gadiano died on the spot while the assailants sped off towards the Cogon Pardo area.
Investigators believe that the motive behind the attack was personal grudge.
Cabrinez, on the other hand, was shot at Sitio Caimito, Urgello Street, while on his way to buy drinks.
Investigators said motorcycle-riding gunmen waited for the victim until he came into view before he was shot.
The assailants fled towards Private area while the bloodied victim was rushed to Sacred Heart Hospital due to multiple gunshot wounds on different parts of his body.
An empty shell from a caliber .45 pistol was recovered from the crime scene.
The police remain clueless to the motive behind the attack.
Meanwhile, unidentified people opened fire at a couple’s house in Barangay Tubod in the town of San Fernando and injured the 18-year-old common-law-wife at 1 am last Friday.
Rosally Impil sustained a gunshot wound on her right thigh while her live-in-partner, 26-year-old Floriano Ombay, a store helper in Carcar City, survived unscathed.
Investigation conducted by San Fernando Police showed that the victims were sleeping soundly and were awakened by bursts of gunfire.
Ombay stood up and turned on the light only to discover blood on their bed. It was then that Impil realized she was hit.
The assailants fled through a dark portion of the area while Ombay checked their house, which was made of amakan, and found several bullet holes on the wall.
The victim was taken to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.
Police recovered at least five slugs of a caliber .45 pistol from the crime scene.
In an interview with some of the neighbors, the police learned that the victims have been staying in the place for the past six months.
The motive behind the attack remains unknown as the victims are also known to be good-natured and have no known enemies. (FREEMAN)
