60-year-old man arrested for 'molesting' girl

CEBU, Philippines - A 60-year-old man is now behind bars after he allegedly molested his 15-year-old niece in Barangay Laaw in the northern town of Borbon.

The issue surfaced during a heated argument between the suspect and the girl’s father last Thursday night.

The suspect is the brother of the girl’s father and had lived with the girl’s family for about a year now.

It appeared that the father had known what the suspect had done to his daughter and threatened to divulge the same during the argument. This reportedly irked the suspect and he then threatened to kill the girl’s family.

SPO1 Edgar Novabos said they responded to the alarm at about 8am and arrested the suspect.

The girl said the suspect groped her several times but she did not tell her father because of fear. The girl’s father also said he once caught the suspect enter their restroom with the girl.

The girl’s father said he had suspected that something was wrong but he ignored the same until last Monday when the girl admitted to him.

Novabos said they had to handcuff the suspect because he already had a motive to kill the entire family.

The victim will be subjected to medical examination at the Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City. She will be accompanied by the Women and Children’s Protection Desk of the Borbon Police.

Police are preparing charges against the suspect.  (FREEMAN)
