Search for best teachers on

CEBU, Philippines - The Metrobank Foundation Inc. has opened nominations for the 2012 Search for Outstanding Teachers.

Schools in all levels, both public and private, can nominate teachers for the regional search. From there, nominees will be chosen to move on to the national search.

Now on its 28th year, the search is anchored on the theme: “Raising Educational Excellence.”

The foundation says nominees should be teachers who “manifest profound commitment to the development of the youth through exemplary competence, remarkable dedication to their work, and effective educational leadership.”

In Memorandum Circular No. 2012-14 issued by the Department of Interior and Local Government all local chief executives and regional directors, the nominees must be “role models to their students” and who have inspired to “follow a path of excellence.”

The search is open to elementary, secondary, and higher education teachers with a ten-year minimum teaching experience and with a performance rating of at least “very satisfactory” for the last five-years.

For the elementary competition, schools are entitled to nominate two teachers – one each representing the primary and intermediate levels. Secondary and higher education schools are entitled to nominate one teacher each.

Satellite campuses of private colleges and universities and state universities and colleges, which are not autonomous, are now allowed to participate in the nomination.

Nominees just need to submit two page Basic Information Sheet (BIS) to the MBFI Secretariat or to the nearest Metrobank branch.

The BIS forms are available in all the bank’s branches, at the Department of Education (DepEd) regional and division offices, and at Commission on Higher Education (CHED) regional offices nationwide.

The search has awarded a total of 306 outstanding teachers from private and public schools all over the country. — (FREEMAN)
