CEBU, Philippines - A woman was detained after she allegedly threw boiling water on her five-year-old foster son last Saturday morning in Barangay Linao, Minglanilla town, Cebu.

PO2 Hazel Tuazon of the Minglanilla Police Station said while the woman was cooking, the child was misbehaving and she got angry and poured hot water on him. A concerned citizen reported the incident to their barangay captain, Primitiva Castañares, who then reported the incident to the police.

The police immediately responded to the reported incident and arrested the woman.

Aside from the incident last Saturday sources said the woman often punished the boy by slapping him while holding a pair of scissors in her hand.

The boy was brought to the hospital for medical treatment and was later turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

Police learned the victim was left to the woman’s care because his mother went to Manila to work. The victim’s mother is a friend of the suspect.

The suspect is now detained and is set to face charges for violating Republic Act 7610 or the Anti-Child Abuse Law.     - (THE FREEMAN)
