Police uproots marijuana in Danao City

- Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja -

CEBU, Philippines - Policemen have again uprooted 100 fully grown marijuana plants in a mountain barangay in Danao City last Friday.

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-7 and Danao City Police Station, in a joint operation, uprooted the illegal plants in Barangay Nangka, located almost 30 kilometers away from barangay Poblacion.

PO1 Faron Abela of the Danao City Police Station said the CIDG-7 received information about a marijuana plantation in the barangay.

Acting on the said information, the team led by Chief Insp. Hermano Mallare, proceeded to Danao City and asked the Danao police for back-up.

Onboard a dump truck, the team left the police station at 6:30 a.m. and arrived at the marijuana plantation at 6:50 am. Abela said the area already lies at the boundary of Danao City and the towns of Tuburan and Asturias.

The policemen reached sitio Bagakay where they discovered the plants in a secluded area and uprooted them. Nobody was arrested.

The team went back to the police station at 10:30 am.

The marijuana plants are now at the custody of the CIDG-7 while they are still conducting surveillance operations to possibly identify the person behind the plantation

A month ago, policemen in Danao City were on their way to serve a warrant of arrest against a rape suspect when they came across a huge marijuana plantation in the mountain barangay of Lawaan.

The five-man team led by SPO1 Bryan Batiquim uprooted a total of 3,091 fully grown marijuana plants and 300 marijuana seedlings in sitio Panilawad-on, Barangay Lawaan.

Several marijuana plants were already uprooted in the mountain barangays of the city during previous operations.  (FREEMAN)
