CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Council may consider the request to allow the barangays that do not have a garage to park their vehicles on the roadside.
Councilor Augustus Pe Jr. suggested to his fellow city legislators to revisit the existing traffic ordinance for them to study the possibility of granting the request of the barangay officials of San Roque Ciudad.
San Roque officials earlier asked the city council to allow them to park their vehicles on the side of the newly widened and concreted Arellano Boulevard where their barangay hall is located.
The City Traffic Operations Management (CITOM) had already issued an opinion opposing the request on the ground that it is contrary to the provisions of the City Ordinance 801 or the City Traffic Code.
Vice Mayor Joy Augustus Young said he is in favor of granting the request. Some of the barangays in the city are using a portion of the roads near the barangay hall as parking area of their vehicles.
Among the barangays that do not have their own parking area and are using the road as garage for their vehicles are Lahug, Zapatera, Pahina-San Nicolas, Kamputhaw, Poblacion Pardo and T. Padilla.
Other barangays have their own garage but are not enough to accommodate all of their vehicles.
“Angay ra man usab nga tugutan ra nato sila nga maka-park daplin sa karsada kay kining maong mga sakyanan sa barangay gigamit man usab kini sa public service,” Young said.
The officials of San Roque are asking for exemption in the implementation of “no parking” because their barangay hall does not have a space for garage even if it is one of the requirements in the construction of new building. (FREEMAN)
