TF fund drive ends today

- Garry B. Lao -

CEBU, Philippines - The fund raising campaign of The FREEMAN and Banat News will continue until today.

Donations are received at The FREEMAN/Banat News advertising offices at the Philippine Star Group Building, D. Jakosalem corner V. Gullas Streets, Cebu City.

All donations and donors will be issued receipts and acknowledged in The FREEMAN and Banat News from January 13 to 15.

The FREEMAN Newspaper and Banat News recently donated more than P200,000 worth of medicines to the victims of typhoon Sendong that swept through southern Philippines, which has greatly affected lives and damaged properties especially in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan Cities.

The FREEMAN Foundation administrator Dr. Remedios Bacasmas said that they turned over 100 boxes of medicines and antibiotics to Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Vicente “Dongkoy” Yap Emano and 100 boxes of medicines and antibiotics to the Iligan Medical Society.

Bacasmas said she also turned over some ointments and 100 vials of flu vaccine from Zuellig Pharma to the two local government units.

Most of the antibiotics purchased were doxycycline for those who were affected with leptospirosis.

The FREEMAN Chairman Dr. Jose R. Gullas initiated the fund drive after learning last December 18 that thousands of families lost their properties and lives because of the typhoon.

Gullas, who is also the executive vice president of the University of the Visayas, said that the one of the immediate needs of the people in the cities of Cagayan de Oro City and Iligan are medicines.

“We Cebuanos must be very grateful that we have the Sto. Niño to protect us in so many ways,” Gullas said.

He remembered the words of wisdom inculcated in him by his father Inting and mother Pining that it is better to give than to receive.

Gullas also thanked Pinky Sy of Trans-Asia and Chester Cokaliong of Cokaliong Shipping Lines for offering to The FREEMAN to transport the goods to Cagayan de Oro and Iligan Cities. — (FREEMAN)
