Seven old MCC graduates barred from taking their professional oath

CEBU, Philippines - Dispirited board examination passers from the old Mandaue City College are planning to file charges in court against the Professional Regulation Commission, which barred them from taking their oath as professional teachers last Saturday.

Russel Fullozos, a radio reporter who was among the seven passers from the old MCC, said they are filing at least four cases against the PRC including disbarment complaint before the Supreme Court against its officials in Central Visayas.

Fullozos said they will petition before the court within the week to order the PRC to hold a special oath-taking for them and to hold PRC officials guilty of contempt for disallowing them to take their professional oath last Saturday.

According to Fullozos, they will ask the court as well to issue a Temporary Restraining Order against the PRC to prevent the agency from doing the same to future board passers.

Fullozos said a disbarment case will be filed by them next year against PRC chairman, Atty. Dan Malayang, PRC-7 legal officer Mildred Antipuesto, and PRC director, Atty. Terisita Manzala.

Fullozos said they have filed thrice their application to take their oath but the PRC also denied them thrice. The oath-taking ceremony was held last Saturday at the University of San Jose Recoletos gym in Bulacao.

Fullozos said that Dr. Nenita Lapingcao, vice-chair of the Philippine Association for Teachers Education, has also referred them to the PRC in terms of the oath-taking, claiming that PAFTE is not the one to decide whether they should take the oath or not.

“Di man mi i-register sa PRC mao nga di mi ka-take oath. Miingon si Lapingcao nga i-refer ra mi niya sa PRC kay igo ra man sila nga in-charge sa oath-taking,” he said in an interview.

According to Fullozos, PRC derided them by refusing to participate in the oath-taking in spite of them having passed the Licensure Examinations for Teachers last September.

“Mura man og gibinuangan mi karon, wala man unta mi labot sa ilang away,” Fullozos said.

Fullozos’ group earlier asked the intervention of the Office of the Ombudsman after the PRC has denied their application to take their oath. However, the anti-graft office failed to help them.

The PRC is reportedly questioning the result of the exam for the old MCC graduates because of its alleged “low quality.” (FREEMAN)
