Octogenarian kills self
CEBU, Philippines - An 85-year-old man hanged himself inside his house in Sitio Ilaya, Barangay Panalipan, Catmon on Saturday morning after his relatives filed a civil complaint against him.
Isaac Luardo, single, was found hanging lifeless by his niece, 60-year-old Oliviana Luardo, at about 5:00 in the morning with a nylon rope around his neck and the other end attached to the ceiling of the house.
SPO2 Rex Menchavez of the Catmon Police Station said Isaac and his relatives had an argument due to a parcel of land inherited by their parents.
Menchavez added that before the case was filed, Isaac had been threatening his relatives that he would commit suicide if they will pursue in filing the charges against him. This was ignored by the relatives.
Isaac, Menchavez said, owned several hectares of land which are the subject of his dispute with his relatives.
“Akong nahibaw-an duna ni sila’y mga legal counsel nga maoy nilakaw ani,” said Menchavez.
A few days ago, Isaac received a subpoena to appear before the court. His body will be subjected to an autopsy. — (FREEMAN)
