Ex-con killed in Cebu City; man found dead in Danao
CEBU, Philippines - Freedom was only short-lived for an ex-convict who was shot dead on Tuesday at Sitio Sadpa, Barangay Sambag 2, Cebu City.
The victim, identified as Cris Tigley, 33, of Visitacion Street of the same barangay, was shot dead by an unidentified assailant while walking along the said place.
Though there was a bakeshop where a group of men were having a drinking session near the crime scene, bystanders allegedly did not see the victim’s assailant saying they only heard three gunshots which prompted them to check but they only saw the victim sprawled, bloodied on the ground.
One of the bystanders reported the incident to the victim’s father, Amado, who personally rushed his bloodied son to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center where the victim was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Investigators recovered from the crime scene two empty shells which they believed to have come from a caliber .45.
Police investigation revealed that the victim died after he was shot on the mouth causing some of his teeth to fall off. The bullet exited through his nape which reportedly resulted to his instantaneous death.
Cebu City Police Office homicide investigator SPO1 Victor Ruel Ayuman told The FREEMAN that relatives of the victim said Tigley and his wife were recently released from jail after serving their sentence of three to four years for a drug case.
“Murag ga-buwag man ni sila sa iyang asawa. Bag-o ra ni ning-uli pero wa pa nahibaw-an kun asa ni siya gikan,” Ayuman said.
Ayuman further revealed that they currently have no clue as to who shot him and what could be the motive behind the incident. However, he said it might be because of drugs.
In Danao City, a 40-year-old man who was believed to be psychologically incapacitated was found dead and was believed to have been shot by a still unidentified person in Barangay Cahumayan early morning on Tuesday.
Found about 30 meters away from his house and with several gunshot wounds on different parts of his body was Dario Gonzales, single and jobless.
He was still holding camote tops in his right hand when he was discovered by a certain “Minggoy.”
The Danao City police are still clueless as to who killed Gonzales since he had been involved in several theft incidents and a murder case once.
A certain “Minggoy”, said to be the victim’s neighbor, found the dead body while walking home from a birthday party in a nearby barangay.
He said the victim’s dead body was hit by the beam of his flashlight and upon checking, he noticed blood coming from the body which prompted him to call barangay captain Gerardo Dayon who then called the police station. PO2 Marlon Remollo, Danao City police investigator, said that Gonzales succumbed to two gunshot wounds on his right chest, another two shots on his right shoulder and a lone hit on his right face which ended his life.
Police said Gonzales was once detained for murder in 1999 but was acquitted after the court found out that he was mentally deranged. —(FREEMAN)
