Soco denies falling out with Gov Garcia

CEBU, Philippines - Businessman Glenn Anthony Soco yesterday clarified that the Capitol’s termination of the janitorial services contract with his family-owned company does not affect his personal relationship with Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.

Soco also denied earlier reports that his alleged falling out with Garcia was the reason behind the termination of the janitorial services contract of Mandaue Integrated Manpower Supply or MIMS.

“It’s quite unfortunate, but it’s business, so business continues. That has nothing to do or it will not affect (in) anyway my relationship with Governor Gwen,” Soco said during the weekly 888 news forum.

He explained that business contract has nothing to do with his personal relationship with Garcia, who was his runningmate in the last 2010 elections.

Soco admitted that their company tried to ask for reconsideration after receiving the pre-termination letter from the Capitol, which the governor denied.

Garcia terminated the services of MIMS on the ground that she has already lost her “trust and confidence” to the agency.

One of the provisions of the contract previously signed by the Capitol and the MIMS states that the services of the latter can be replaced anytime if the governor loses her trust and confidence to their services.

Soco said that the company’s thrust now is to focus on and to move forward saying that “there are also opportunities in any adversarial condition in business.”

MIMS services will be officially terminated 45 days after September 28 but their services may be extended on a monthly basis until a new service provided has been chosen. – (FREEMAN)
