CEBU, Philippines - Engineer Grecilda “Gigi” Sanchez-Zaballero is urging Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia to pursue the Trans-Axial Highway, the dream of her father, the late vice governor Gregorio Sanchez.
Zaballero criticized Garcia for having a program called the “E-Gwen Highway” when the roads named after her are already there a long time ago.
“I don’t care if she names the Trans-Axial Highway into Gwen Highway basta naa lang na,” Zaballero said.
Zaballero claimed her father was a nation builder having been part in conceptualizing the Transcentral Highway that has already helped improve the lives of the people.
“The Transcentral Highway has improved greatly the flower industry and agriculture industry in Balamban. Why in her bright mind tried to stop the Trans-Axial from north to south of the province,” she said.
One of the components of the Trans-Axial Highway is the access road to each town and city from the backbone of the Island of Cebu.
This is seen as a solution to the lack of development in the remote areas in the mountains of the province.
Zaballero also hit Garcia’s “Suroy-Suroy sa Sugbo” Program which she described as temporary and has no long-term effect.
“Murag naglutaw, I hope she will come to realize to put her feet back on the ground,” she said.
Sanchez had long pushed for the construction of the highway that would traverse from Daanbantayan in the northern tip of the island to Santander in the south.
Sanchez made the proposal in 2006 but the project was not realized allegedly because of politics. (FREEMAN)
