CEBU, Philippines - Lawyer Rory Jon Sepulveda belied reports that he has already resigned as consultant of Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.
Sepulveda described the report of his supposed resignation as Capitol consultant on information, revenue generation and compliance as “Showbiz.”
“Showbiz ra kaayo nga tsismis,” was his immediate reaction when sought for comment about Bobby Nalzaro’s column.
Nalzaro wrote in his column that Sepulveda has resigned effective October 31 and is now with the Philippine Airlines.
According to Nalzaro, the information he got was that, Sepulveda was forced to resign because “he could no longer stomach the temper and management style of Gov. Gwen Garcia.”
Nalzaro surmised that Sepulveda may have been among those scolded by Garcia during meetings.
He added that Sepulveda was “blind to the reality that sometimes the actions of the governor were indefensible. But because he was her consultant and mouthpiece, he was forced to take orders from her even if these were against his will and principle.”
“Never have I done any work (as a Capitol consultant and as Governor’s spokesman) against my values and principles. Working for the Governor is a privilege and honor on my part and I will continue to embrace it,” Sepulveda said.
Sepulveda explained that he has not been seen at the Capitol lately because of some private matters that he needs to attend to and the governor is allegedly aware of it.
“I will address all the other issues in the proper time,” Sepulveda added.
Sepulveda has been consultant on information, revenue generation and compliance at the Office of the Governor since 2004.
He is a partner of Mercado Cordero Bael Acuna & Sepulveda Law Offices since 2001; Consultant on Legal Matters of the Board of Directors of the Mactan – Cebu International Airport Authority since 2006; and as Vice President of Legal Affairs at Oikonomos International Resources, Inc. since 2004.
Sepulveda has been independent director of Cebu Property Ventures & Development Corp. since April 2008.
Sepulveda graduated at the Mindanao State University with a degree of Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in March 1984. He finished his Bachelor of Laws at the University of San Carlos in March 1990 and passed the Bar examination in the same year. (FREEMAN)
