Police remain on red alert

- Ryan Christopher J. Sorote -

CEBU, Philippines - Even with the end of the long holiday, police will maintain on “red alert” as students of public schools return to classes today and thousands are expected to return to work.

City Police Director Melvin Ramon Buenafe said that as of yesterday, they have not received orders to bring the alert level down.

Buenafe said this means they will continue to supervise bus terminals and sea ports to maintain security of travelers that return to the city. The police assistance desk will also continue to be in place.

“Di gihapon ta angay nga mo-kompyansa…padayon atong mga operations to prevent crimes at terminals and seaports diin daghan ang mga tawo karon,” Buenafe said.

He said that he is confident peace and order will be sustained with the collaboration of police agencies, which started last weekend for the long holiday.

Buenafe advised the public to maintain caution while traveling back to their respected destinations, as lawless elements are just close and may strike at any time.

“Atong gi-advice ang public nga di magdala og mga daghang cash and valuables to prevent being victimized by criminals, hilabi na ang atong mga butang, keep it close to your body and be conscious,” he said.

Buenafe said he is glad that Cebuanos have become more aware of the policies set by the police inside cemeteries across the city.

“Naa gyu’y kalahian sa kadaghanon sa mga confiscated sharp object ug mga ilimnon compared sa previous years,” he said.

This is a good sign, he said, that the public is being responsive to police policies and warnings. “Mas aware na gyud karon ang mga tawo mao nga naa gyu’y pag- ubos sa mga confiscations,” he said.

“Continuous gihapon atong operations kay ubay-ubay ra gihapon ang mibisita sa mga dagko nga mga sam-ang,” he added.

“We will be at the cemeteries still, hangtod nga atong ma- obserbahan na nahuman na ang mga tawo sa pagbisita nila,” he said further. - THE FREEMAN
