Coast Guard, Aquino to award Cokaliong

CEBU, Philippines - The Philippine Coast Guard is awarding Cebu-based Cokaliong Shipping Lines for the heroism of its crew on the M/V Filipinas Cebu in rushing to the aid and rescue of those on board the Trans Asia Malaysia of Trans Asia Shipping Lines, which sank off Iloilo last July 31.

The awarding is set for tomorrow, October 18, as part of ceremonies celebrating the 110th founding anniversary of the Philippine Coast Guard.

President Aquino will hand out the award while Chester Cokaliong, founder, CEO and COO of Cokaliong Shipping, will receive the award on behalf of his company and crew.

Cokaliong received a similar award recently from the Maritime Industry Authority. He has also been named Entrepreneur of the Year by both the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Province of Cebu during its Garbo sa Sugbo Awards. - THE FREEMAN
