"Eyes turn red, voice changed"

- Ryan Christopher J. Sorote -

CEBU, Philippines - “Her voice changed and her eyes turned red,” is how a male student of Sta Lucia National High School in Asturias town described one of his four female classmates who were reportedly possessed by the evil spirits last Monday.

The boy who requested anonymity told The FREEMAN that his third year classmate went berserk immediately after their flag raising ceremony.

“She was just sitting with the rest of the class when she suddenly acted odd and later went berserk inside our classroom,” he said in Cebuano.

According to the boy, they were shocked with what had happened and tried to pacify the girl but the latter became violent.

“We tried to stop her, but she was stronger and her voice changed – like a small girl’s voice,” he said.

Prior to last Monday’s alleged “evil possession”, a first year female student was also reported to have been possessed two weeks earlier.

“Nag pasa-pasa gyud sa mga babaye (the evil spirit transferred from one girl to another),” Dennis Bacon, the school’s teacher-in-charge told The FREEMAN.

Bacon said the girls were simple high school students with common teen problems. “Wa gyud mi nag dahum nga ma-ingana to (we never expected the incident),” he told The FREEMAN.

The students get spiritual help from the healers in Mary’s Little Children in Talisay City.

Before the alleged demon possession happened, one of the girls collapsed and started acted oddly.

It was learned that the first student to experience the paranormal incident was a regular “patient” of Monsignor Frederick Kriekenbeek, who drives away evil spirits.

Rev. Father Renato Gamorot who helped referred the victims to Kriekenbeek said that the students were having family problems.

“According sa mga teachers, mura’g naay family problem ang students which probably contributed to the incident,” he said.

The school is surrounded with old mango and gemelina trees while the municipal cemetery is located few meters away at the back of the school.

The school administrators told The FREEMAN that they cut several small trees surrounding the school last July. (FREEMAN)
