CEBU, Philippines - A waiter died on his birthday after his motorcycle rammed an electric post along N. Bacalso Avenue in Barangay Basak Pardo, Cebu City yesterday dawn.
Norbert Tecson, 28, of Sudlon, Barangay Lahug Cebu City, failed to return home yesterday after the fatal crash killed him at around 5:50 a.m.
Luckily, his back rider, Perryvan Tecson, 35, of Escario St., Barangay Camputhaw, survived the crash with several lacerations and bruises on different parts of his body.
Cebu City Traffic investigator PO3 Armando Bañoc told The FREEMAN Norbert unfortunately died on his natal day. “Grabi kaayo og nga-ab iyang asawa kay namatay iyang bana sa iya gyud birthday,” he said.
According to him, Norbert was driving his unregistered motorcycle very fast towards the direction of Ta-lisay City when it lost control and hit an electric post near Holy Cross Parish Church. “Wala tay mga witness but base sa nahitabo sa mga biktima kusog gyud iyang dagan,” he said.
Though Norbert was wearing a full-faced helmet, Bañoc said the impact was very strong that it reportedly broke the victim’s neck. “Wala gyud nakaya sa helmet ang ka-kusog sa impact,” he said.
Even responding rescue personnel considered Norbert’s injuries to be very fatal.Bañoc said Norbert was supposed to go home on Thursday night at 11 o’clock right after his shift in a restaurant downtown. “Instead nga mouli, posible nga gi-imbitar ni siya sa iyang mga kauban og inom kay iya baya birthday,” he said.
Perryvan, on the other hand, corroborated Bañoc’s theory saying that they came from a drinking spree with friends. Perryvan was rushed to Cebu City Medical Center while Norbert was brought to St. Francis Funeral Homes.
Norbert’swife reportedly could not accept her husband’s death when she finally saw his lifeless body in the morgue yesterday.
Meanwhile, a garbage collector ended up drunk and dead after his motorcycle rammed the concrete railings along Barangay Ibo, Toledo City at 1 am yesterday.
Toledo City garbage collector Oscar Ruben, 43, who was allegedly drunk, died while on his way home after drinking with his friends.
Lorencio Dolino, market inspector of the Toledo City Public Market and a relative of the victim, said he was with Ruben and other municipal employees at the Looie beach resort in Barangay Tajao prior to the incident.
He said the Toledo City Hall held a party last Friday, at the beach resort owned by Mayor Aurelio Espinosa, for all the employees and officials in celebration of the Civil Service Month.
Late in the afternoon, Dolino said the victim got on his black Honda XRM motorcycle and sped off.
Before going home, the victim stopped at a videoke house in Barangay Poblacion and continued to have a drinking binge with his friends.
At 1 am, the already drunk victim drove his motorcycle and encountered the accident.
He was thrown away from the motorcycle and fell on the pavement, seriously damaging his head.
Concerned citizens took him to the hospital but he died on the way there. (FREEMAN)
