Winning bet: Hope is dead

-

CEBU, Philippines - One of the councilors-elect of Compostela is already losing hope that she could still take her seat before the 2013 elections.

Councilor-elect Tessa Cang described her winning the May 2010 elections as a “dead issue.”

Cang said the Commission on Elections until now has not replied to their queries on how to conduct the re-canvassing of votes.

“Ambot og nganong lisud man kaayong replayan nga query nga simple ra man kaayo,” Cang said.

Cang and the rest of the winning candidates in Compostela has not assumed office until now after the Comelec has nullified their proclamation pending the resolution of the election protest filed by former mayor Ritchie Wagas.

Wagas lost to Mayor-elect Joel Quiño, who like Cang, also failed to assume office. The other winners whose proclamation has been annulled are Vice Mayor-elect Maria Antoinette Dangoy, and councilors-elect Josephine Abing, Joy Ann Cabatingan, Wilfredo Calom, Homer Canen, Jose Cagang, Alfredo Cabatingan and Francisco Olivario.

“I think basin mohatag ang Comelec og order one week before 2013 election just like any other case,” Cang said.

The Comelec Second Division earlier ordered the Municipal Board of Canvassers to reconvene and re-canvass the votes in the 2010 elections in Compostela.    - (THE FREEMAN)
