Suspect claims unfair treatment: Boy, 16, slays mother, sister

- Ria Mae Y. Booc -

CEBU, Philippines - An eight-month pregnant woman and her five-year-old daughter were killed by her own 16-year-old son inside their house in Barangay Naalad, Naga City Thursday night.

The bodies of the victims were found in a pool of blood by the woman’s five-year-old niece about 5 a.m. yesterday.

The mother sustained multiple stab wounds to her head and body while her daughter bore stab wounds in her back.

Police have detained the suspect after the recovery of a .357 revolver that he allegedly used in hammering his mother.

The revolver was owned by the suspect who reportedly pawned it to his 19-year-old friend Bryan Pansoy for P500.

Police also recovered the woman’s N70 cellular phone which was allegedly stolen by her son.

The suspect bore scratches in his arms and was identified by Pansoy and his other friend, Mark Lester Abastas, as the one behind the killing.

Chief Inspector Timmar Alam, chief of the Naga City Police Station, said the suspect, Abastas and Pansoy were drinking at a benefit dance in Sitio Sudlon, Barangay Tinaan which was celebrating its fiesta.

The three were allegedly looking for money after they ran out of liquor.

Abastas and Pansoy reportedly told the suspect to go home and ask money from her mother.

Pansoy reportedly accompanied him and stayed along the highway while the suspect proceeded to their house. Alam said the suspect, thinking he would be scolded by his mother, immediately hit the head of his mother, who was lying on the bamboo chair, with the revolver.

“Ang kutsilyo diha ra na sa lamesa kay tindahan ra ba na ang sulod sa ilaha,” Alam said.

The suspect then took the knife from the table and stabbed her many times.

He then grabbed her half-sister who was eating at that time and stabbed her also.

The suspect then took the victim’s cellular phone and put her laptop on a basin full of water before he left.

The victim’s cousins who live nearby noticed a commotion inside the house but ignore it.

Discovery

Early morning yesterday, the victim’s five-year-old niece went to her sari-sari store to buy Milo.

The kid was calling for the victim but nobody answered from inside the house.

When she opened the door, she saw the bodies of the mother and her daughter lying on the bamboo chair and floor, respectively.

Responding policemen then called the suspect, who was sleeping at his auntie’s house, and took him to the police station for questioning.

Police Operation

During interrogation, the suspect claimed he knew of somebody who could have done the crime. He pointed to Pansoy.

The Naga city police and members of the Provincial Intelligence Branch then went to Pansoy’s house and arrested him. They also recovered the bloodstained .357 revolver.

But Pansoy denied the crime, saying he stayed at the highway when the suspect went into their house.

“Wala ko ana uy! Sure pa didto ko pero wa gyud ko magpatay bisan tan-awn pa ninyo akong kamot,” Pansoy to police investigators.

Pansoy said Abastas was with them that night, prompting the police to pick up Abastas at an Internet café.

Abastas admitted that Pansoy handed him a cellular phone given by the suspect.

Inspector Christopher Castro told The FREEMAN that after the crime, the suspect handed the cellular phone to Pansoy, telling him to sell it so they could buy shabu.

Pansoy tried to sell the cellular phone to Abastas but the latter did not have enough money. Abastas instead sold it to his neighbor for P800.

Motive

Alam said the suspect was planning to ask for money from his mother but was pushed to commit the crime, thinking that his mother would only scold him.

“Manguha unta siguro ni’g kwarta pero nahadlok nga yawyawan napud that’s why gipatay nalang niya diritso,” Alam said.

In an interview over TV Patrol Central Visayas, the suspect disclosed that the unfair treatment he received from her mother drove him to kill the two victims.

He was allegedly jealous of the attention his mother gave to his half-sister.

The victim was a small entrepreneur and her husband is a seaman.

She reportedly stopped sending the suspect to school after learning that he was not serious in his studies.

Neighbors said the suspect, reportedly a member of Trihedron fraternity, was a drug user.

With the arrest of the suspect, police considered the case as closed.

A parricide case will be filed against the suspect, who will be temporarily housed at the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

Pansoy, who will be charged with conspiracy to commit murder, is detained at the Naga City police stockade. — /LPM (FREEMAN)
