CEBU, Philippines - The National Bureau of Investigation announced the opening of its satellite office in the municipality of Tuburan on September 1.
NBI-7 Regional Director Edward Villarta said the satellite office shall be opened during working days and will serve clients from northern Cebu and even the neighboring province of Negros Oriental.
Villarta said it was Tuburan Mayor Democrito Diamante who requested him to set up a satellite office in his town with the assurance of providing space in the municipal hall.
Diamante said that he set up the NBI office in a multi-purpose building behind the municipal hall. This same building houses the Government Service Insurance System Wireless Automated Processing System (G-W@PS) kiosk.
Villarta said the satellite office will process new applications and renewal of NBI clearances using its Biometric Clearance System which was implemented at the regional office last month.
“Mababawasan na ang mag-apply doon sa regional office natin,” Villarta said.
Villarta said that after the installation of equipment in Tuburan, they will restore in two months the operation of its kiosk in Robinson’s Department Store at Fuente Osmeña in Cebu City which was closed after the establishment was hit by a fire.
The said satellite office before only accepted clearance renewal but this time, Villarta said it will process new applicants.
“Kung ano yung nasa regional natin, yun na rin yong nandoon,” he said.
Aside from satellite offices in Tuburan and in Robinson’s Department Store, Villarta said more satellite offices will be opened in other provinces in the region.
“Mga satellite offices dagdagan natin para ma declogged at mabigyan ng magagandang serbisyo ang mga taga-region natin,” he said.
With the Biometric Clearance System ink stains on fingers will be a thing of the past, applicants can also get their clearance within five to 10 minutes unlike before when it took 10 to 15 days.
With the new system, he said, they can accommodate up to 1,500 applicants a day. - (THE FREEMAN)
