Gwen spends a day checking, inaugurating projects in Cordova
CEBU, Philippines - Governor Gwendolyn Garcia spent an entire day yesterday inaugurating and groundbreaking projects worth around P150 million in the municipality of Cordova.
Some of the projects will get funding from the municipality itself, but a bigger bulk of expenses will be shouldered by the provincial government.
In the morning, Garcia together with Vice Governor Agnes Magpale, Provincial Board Member Thadeo Ouano and Cordova local officials led by Mayor Adelino Sitoy cut the ribbon to inaugurate the Cogon and Poblacion New Road asphalting projects.
During lunch at the Kasadya Park and Playground, Garcia met with Vice Mayors League of the Philippines – Cebu Chapter led by Toledo City Vice Mayor Arlene Zambo. There, Garcia announced that she is giving another P2 million to VMLP after the group donated classrooms to cities and towns using the P2 million Capitol previously donated.
Garcia led the ceremonial groundbreaking of eGwen Avenue, a 535-meter road that leads to the proposed reclamation project of the Province of Cebu. Garcia said the eGwen Avenue, measuring 30 meters wide, will be the widest highway in Mactan Island.
Sitoy said the municipality has allocated P1.3 million to open the Avenue.
Garcia also inspected the ongoing construction of the two-classroom school building in Cordova Public College. The VMLP also turned over a classroom building to the school.
Later in the day, Garcia led the ceremonial groundbreaking of the Senior Citizens Building, Birthing Center and Public Comfort Rooms at the Cordova Public Plaza. After that, she led the ceremonial groundbreaking of the Cordova Reclamation Site.
Provincial Engineer Eulogio Pelayre said the contract will be awarded next week so that filling works can start immediately.
Capitol initially allocated P80 million for 10 hectares of the reclamation project while an additional amount will be appropriated for 10 hectares more.
The roll-on/roll-off port of Cordova was also opened yesterday, albeit still 90 percent complete. The project costs P30 million, P23 million of which was loaned from the Land Bank of the Philippines. The municipal government chipped in P7 million as counterpart fund.
Furthermore, Garcia attended the blessing of the new school building funded by the provincial government at the Cordova National High School and cut the ribbon to inaugurate the Ibabao road asphalting project.
She ended the day by inspecting the proposed slaughterhouse in Barangay Pilipog.
Garcia told Sitoy that she would return in six months to inaugurate the Cordova Reclamation Project. (FREEMAN)
