NBI seize fake footwear, bags

CEBU, Philippines - Fake footwear and bags worth P3.5 million were seized by the National Bureau of Investigation from different establishments in Lapu-Lapu City and Cebu City yesterday.

NBI agent Bernard dela Cruz, said they were able to obtain a search warrant from Judge Ramon Daomilas of Regional Trial Court Branch 11 after the complainant, the authorized dealer of DC Shoes Co. from Australia, asked for the assistance of the bureau.

Aside from fake DC shoes they were also able to seize fake bags of different brands. 

Dela Cruz estimates the seized shoes alone, around 800 pairs, cost P3.2 million while the fake slippers and other products accounted for P300,000.

The operation started in the morning and lasted until the afternoon, it took three trucks to take all the contraband to the NBI office. Dela Cruz said there will be follow-up operations.

He added they will be filing a case for violation of Republic Act 8293 otherwise known as Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines, against the owner of the establishments where the fake products were seized. (FREEMAN)
