CEBU, Philippines - The policeman who was allegedly mauled by a team from the Squatters Prevention Encroachment Elimination Division (Speed) is planning to file charges against the seven SPEED arresting officers, said Inspector Julius Ompad, officer-in-charge of the Provincial Investigation and Detective Management Branch (PIDMB).
In an interview, Ompad told The FREEMAN that PO1 Darwin Melodia, 34, of Nivel Hills, barangay Lahug went to the PIDMB office, his face black and blue.
Melodia hinted of filing charges against arresting officers Joey Geonzon, the team leader, Jodilito Vaño, Jeffrey Jumao-as, Anthony Bejasa, Oliver Calma, Edward Luga and Romeo Ocaba.
Melodia wanted Ompad, who is also a lawyer, to handle his case but the latter refused since Ompad’s task is to handle complaints representing the entire province and individual interests.
“He asked me but I said no since I am representing the entire province,” Ompad said, adding that Melodia’s cousin will be his lawyer.
Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) Director Patrocinio Comendador said that they will be supporting Melodia’s personal decision to file a case as a policeman under his command, but this will not necessarily mean they are influencing him.
Melodia was allegedly mauled by members of the SPEED last Monday evening without enough reason. (FREEMAN)
