Radioman dies in road accident

- Ria Mae Y. Booc -

CEBU, Philippines - A radioman died on the spot while his companion suffered injuries when a cargo truck hit the motorcycle they were riding in Barangay Tindog, Medellin town early morning yesterday.

The fatality was identified as Samuel Cedro, an anchorman of Radyo Natin in Medellin. His companion, Jonito de la Cruz, is a radio volunteer of DyDD Bantay Radyo. De la Cruz was rushed to the Severo Verallo District Hospital in Bogo City.

The two were reportedly heading towards the Radyo Natin station in Barangay Curva when hit by the cargo truck driven by Francisco Daitol, 63, at the corner of the national road and a private road in sitio Franco, Barangay Tindog. The truck with plate number GAY-364 was turning left towards the national road at that time.

The impact caused both victims to be thrown off the motorcycle. It also damaged the front left sidings and detached the hood of the truck.

Cedro and De la Cruz were supposed to go on board the Kalambuan sa Kuarto Distrito of Congressman Benhur Salimbangon at 8am. Cedro was the one driving the motorcycle at that time.

Inspector Manuel Singson, chief of the Medellin Police Station, said the cargo truck was being used to transport sugar cane in Barangay Curva but it was empty that time of the incident.

Both vehicles are now in the custody of the Medellin Police Station. Daitol is being detained at the same police station while awaiting the filing of formal charges against him. – (FREEMAN)
