CEBU, Philippines - Two men met their untimely death last Friday – one shot by his co-worker in Barangay Ermita while the other was stabbed by his cousin in Barangay Talamban.
In the Ermita incident, the victim, Henegreg Fagalan, 21, a laborer, was waiting for a customer along MC Briones Street when a certain Jumbert, another laborer, signaled that Fagala approach him.
Witnesses said Jumbert pulled out a gun just as Fagalan was approaching him. The victim tried to run away but Jumbert fired two shots that hit him on the back. Jumbert immediately fled the area.
Fagalan was brought to the Cebu City Memorial Medical Center but he was declared dead on arrival. The two bullets said to have hit two major organs in Fagalan. Police theorized that Jumbert might have envied Fagalan for having customers at night.
Meanwhile, in the Talamban incident, the victim, Alejo Damaolao, 50, was in a drinking spree with his relatives at Villa Leyson Subdivision to commemorate the first death anniversary of Damaolao’s brother when a heated argument ensued between Damaolao’s father Apolinario and his cousin Roger at around 5:30pm.
Damaolao tried to interfere but failed to do so, resulting only to Roger’s father, Armando, getting irked and challenging Damaolao to a fistfight.
Armando reportedly picked up a frying pan and attacked Damaolao, but Roger said it was his father who was attacked first, prompting him to stab the victim.
Damaolao sustained a lone stab wound on his upper stomach, which led to his death. He was rushed to the Cebu City Memorial Medical Center, but was declared dead on arrival.
Roger was later apprehended by barangay tanods who responded to the incident. He is currently detained at the detention cell at the Cebu City Police Office while he awaits the formal filing of homicide charges against him. (FREEMAN)
