9th Vegetable Congress on Aug. 3

CEBU, Philippines -An estimated 500 stakeholders in the vegetable industry from all over the country will converge this August 3 to 5 for the 9th National Vegetable Congress.

Department of Agriculture 7 Regional Director Leo Cañeda, in a press statement, announced that the said gathering will tackle a wide-ranging issues and concerns in the agriculture sector - from best practices in vegetable production and enhancing productivity level, to the promotion of safe and quality production for the high-value vegetables industry to become globally competitive.

This theme for this congress is “Quality and Safe Vegetables: Key to Sustainable Economic Growth.”

It will be held in Negros Oriental and will serve as a venue to lobby for new policies, reforms and initiatives to guide all industry stakeholders in addressing the need to ensure food security and self-sufficiency amid the threats caused by the climate change and trading conditions. 

The event will also tackle post-harvest and marketing, relevant policies and development strategies involving government, individual and institutional vegetable growers, input and service suppliers such as seed companies, fertilizer manufacturers and the private enterprise sector.  (FREEMAN)
