CEBU, Philippines - One of the two suspects in the killing of security guard Rolly Rodrigo was arrested Monday evening inside his residence in Bliss, Lawaan III, Talisay City.
Reynaldo Camansi Villas, 42, a rag vendor, was nabbed by operatives of Provincial Intelligence Branch headed by PO2 Ramil Villaluz.
The arrest of Villas, a native of Nasipit, Agusan Del Norte, was done by virtue of a warrant issued on June 8 by Judge Sylvia Aguire-Padiranga of Regional Trial Court Branch 16.
Villas’ cohort known only as certain Jonard, the alleged gunman, is still at large.
Villas, however, denied the accusations saying, he did not know Rodrigo and that he was in his house celebrating his daughter’s birthday when the incident happened.
“Wala gani ko misibat kay kahibalo ko wala koy sala,” he said.
The barangay once sent Villas a subpoena but he did not appear during the hearing.
Rodrigo’s daughter, Dina, hoped that Villas would divulge Jonard’s whereabouts.
“Mas maayo mosulti na lang siya kaysa magsagubang siya ana,” she said.
Villas was identified by the witness as the one with Jonard when the shooting occurred at the intersection of the South Road Properties road in Talisay City.
Two men onboard a green motorcycle ambushed Rodrigo, 47, on December 8 last year. He did not reach the Talisay District Hospital alive.
Rodrigo just dropped off his two children at Lawaan Elementary School when he was shot five times.
The witness also said the two assailants then sped toward Cebu City through the coastal road.
Cebu Provincial Police Office director Patrocinio Comendador said that Villas was once a gun-for-hire who was also involved in selling illegal drugs.
“It doesn’t matter nga dugay nasulbad ang kaso ang importante duna nay suspect,” Comendador said. – (FREEMAN)
