Two shot dead; father hurt while saving son from mob

CEBU, Philippines - Two people died of separate shooting incidents in Cebu City over the weekend.

Construction worker Marlon Generalao, 31, and Crispin Noval, 40, were shot dead in Barangay Labangon and San Nicolas, respectively.

Generalao, resident of A. Lopez, Labangon, died from a single gunshot wound after a 17-year-old suspect shot him at the back following a heated argument over a computer game.

Generalao was allegedly playing Dota, an internet game, together with his friends inside an internet café in sitio Bugnay 2, Barangay Labangon at 4:00 p.m. Sunday when the suspect joined them in the game. In the middle of the game, the suspect, whose name withheld by The FREEMAN for being a minor, allegedly accused the victim of eavesdropping.

An argument ensued prompting the suspect to go out of the internet café apparently to get a gun. Moments later, the suspect returned and shot the victim from behind. The suspect surrendered later to Barangay Calamba officials.

According to the police, the minor suspect also has a pending case in court and is currently out on bail for hacking a neighbor several months ago.

Noval on the other hand was on his way home from a fiesta in Sitio Tabaska, San Nicolas yesterday dawn when an unidentified assailant shot him several times. Noval died of a gunshot wound in his chest.

The unidentified gunman immediately fled on foot. The police is yet to determine the motive behind the killing of Noval.

Meanwhile, a father who came to rescue his son from a group of teenagers in Barangay Busay landed in the hospital after he got stabbed.

Felix Empis, 47, tried to pacify a group of unidentified teenagers who mauled his son when he got mauled and stabbed instead. Empis was immediately taken to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center where he is currently recuperating while the group of teenagers escaped.   - (THE FREEMAN)
