PUJ drivers to have new uniforms

- Rene U. Borromeo -

CEBU, Philippines - Days from now, drivers of all public utility vehicles will look different.

Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) regional director Ahmed Cuizon said he had received a newly-approved Memorandum Circular from LTFRB Chairman Nelson Laluces informing him of the change in the colors of uniforms of all public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers.

He said the uniform for the passenger jeepneys would be light blue polo shirt or T-shirt with collar, while for the bus drivers is still the same, white polo shirt or T-shirt with collar.

The taxi drivers, who are presently wearing white polo shirts, will be required to wear red uniforms while drivers of shuttle service, school service and tourist transport service will be wearing yellow shirts.

The LTFRB-Manila has also decided to include the drivers of cargo trucks-for-hire in the wearing of uniforms and assigned the color maroon for them and green for the van-for-hire drivers.

Cuizon said except for the PUJ drivers, the polo uniform should bear the name of the driver and logo of the company or business name, and the concerned drivers are required to always wear long pants and shoes while driving the vehicles.

If the concerned companies have their own uniforms, they should first ask an approval from the LTFRB.

It was not mentioned in the Memorandum Circular why the LTFRB has decided to change the colors of PUV drivers’ uniforms.

Those PUV drivers who will be caught not wearing the prescribed uniforms shall be fined P148 based on the fees of the Land Transportation Office (LTO), which is lower compared to the P300 as provided for by the LTFRB.   - (THE FREEMAN)
