Dumpit eyes Court of Appeals for his petition for inhibition

- Mylen P. Manto -

CEBU, Philippines - The lawyer of controversial policeman SPO1 Adonis Dumpit said they will seek refuge with the Court of Appeals if the Regional Trial Court will not resolve their motion for reconsideration on the court’s denial of their motion for inhibition.

Judge Ester Veloso of RTC Branch 6 earlier denied Dumpit’s motion for inhibit, but has not resolved the subsequent motion for reconsideration. Lawyer Benjamin Militar yesterday moved that the hearing of the murder case against his client be stopped until the court resolves the motion for reconsideration.

Militar said it is important that the court settles the issue because the motion for inhibition also included the petition for Dumpit to be granted bail.

Militar reiterated that his client has been receiving death threats at the Cebu City Jail.

“SPO1 Adonis Dumpit is entitled to bail… Dumpit’s life is in danger… there are many attempts in his life and this should be taken seriously,” Militar said.

The court eventually decided to move to August 23, 2011 the cross examination on Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) Deputy for Operations Paul Labra who was placed on the witness stand yesterday. Labra testified for the defense.

Prosecutor Alfred Oguis insisted that the cross examination should push through yesterday, but the court ruled in favor of the defense.

Janeth Badana, mother of Ronron Go that Dumpit allegedly killed, said she is still hoping for justice for her son’s death. Dumpit allegedly shot Go to death on December 14, 2004 in Barangay Villagonzalo II, Cebu City. Go is a suspected robber.   - (THE FREEMAN)
