Wanted man nabbed for shooting minor

- Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja -

CEBU, Philippines - A young man, who has been under manhunt operation for a separate crime, fell into the hands of police after he accidentally shot a minor in Consolacion town yesterday.

James Juarez, alias “K-9” and “Scarface,” 22, was arrested after injuring a 17-year-old boy with his gun at the Crossing area of Barangay Poblacion Oriental at 4 a.m.

PO2 Johnaskie Romero of Consolacion Police Station said the suspect, a resident of the Barangay Suba, Lilo-an, went to the place and allegedly suddenly went wild.

The suspect was armed with a gun and suddenly kept on brandishing it until he released a shot once.

The bullet hit 17-year-old Ariel Tañesa to the left shoulder. He was rushed to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City for treatment while the suspect was arrested by responding police officers from Consolacion Police Station.

There were reports that Juarez got mad after learning that his girlfriend, who lives in the place, was sent by her parents to Mindanao to be separated from him.

Recovered from the suspect’s possession was a caliber .38 revolver with two live ammunitions and an empty shell together with a transparent sachet believed to contain shabu.

Romero said the gun was submitted to the Firearms Explosives Security Service Agency and Guards Supervisory (FESSAGS) to check if it was licensed or not while the suspect is now detained.

Romero said elements of Lilo-an Police Station went to their office and showed the alias warrant of arrest for frustrated murder against the suspect with a bail bond fixed at P200,000.

Romero said they will file cases for illegal possession of firearms and possession of illegal drugs against the suspect on Tuesday.

Juarez will also face either frustrated homicide or frustrated murder for accidentally shooting the minor.

Meanwhile, a 17-year-old boy stabbed and injured a man accused of stealing a cellular phone on Doña Modesta St., Barangay Lahug at past 1 a.m. yesterday.

Vander Burgh Villondo, 23, resident of Sudlon Agricultural Compound, sustained a few stabbed wounds in his body after a minor stabbed him.

The victim said he was about to cross the street supposedly to buy bread when one of the suspects, Elmer Rosas, 20, pointed a knife at him.

But before he could react, the minor suspect allegedly stabbed him with a knife while another cohort, Rizal Desepolo, 40, held him.

Villondo told the police that he was accused of taking the cellular phone of Rosas a long time ago. Rosas, a construction worker, lives in Cansiahon, Ronda town.

Responding policemen arrested all suspects while the victim is now recuperating at the Cebu City Medical Center.      - (THE FREEMAN)
