CEBU, Philippines - A 50-year-old man was stabbed to death while attending a fiesta celebration in Oprra, Barangay Kalunasan, Cebu City yesterday.

Police identified the victim through the residence certificate found in his clothes as Tirso Mecarsos, a resident of Dumlog, Talisay City.

PO3 Ruth Violango of the Homicide Section said police officers from Guadalupe Police Station were conducting a roving patrol near the place when some residents told them about the victim found lying on the roadside.

The police responded and saw the victim’s body with multiple stab wounds.

Violango said no one claimed to have witnessed the stabbing incident but three young men were allegedly seen running away from the place shortly before the victim’s body was discovered.

The police rushed the victim to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center and later transferred to the Cebu City Medical Center where he was declared dead.

Violango said a certain Edgar Alesna told them that he had a drinking session with the victim, who only went to the place to attend the fiesta, a day prior to the incident. The victim, whom he observed to be kind, claimed that he has a relative living near the place.

“Among pagtuo basin napareglahan gyud. Tiguwang na baya to siya. Ayaw ko ingna makigkontra siya sa mga batan-on,” Violango said.

Meanwhile, a carpenter was shot dead by another fellow carpenter in Barangay Langob, Argao Wednesday about 7:38 in the evening.

The police are yet to determine why Noel Gecera, 36, shot dead his neighbor Rex Ngujo, 44, at the store owned by a certain May-May.

Ngujo who was with his wife, Anecita, at the time of the incident, sustained a gunshot wound to the head that caused his immediate death.

Inspector Allan Batobalonos, Argao police chief, alleged that Ngujo arrived at the store few minutes before Gecera came.

Gecera allegedly joked “Biliba ko nimo bai, nahurot man akong bilib nimo” to which the victim allegedly replied “Ayaw hutda imong bilib kay wala nay mahibilin” and left.

But Gecera suddenly pulled out an undetermined caliber of firearm tucked in his waist and shot Ngujo who was about to turn his back. The suspect then fled leaving the victim sprawling on the ground bleeding.

Neighbors alleged that Anecita and the wife of Gecera had a misunderstanding last year but was already settled.

“Naabot gyud kuno ni sila sa barangay kay kini laging tabi-tabi,” Batobalonos said.

Police believe Gecera was using a .357 revolver based on the hit of Ngujo.

After the incident, police officers proceeded to the house of Gecera but he has already left, leaving his family at the house of his parents in the same barangay. He is now under a manhunt operation. (FREEMAN)
