Lack of complainants won't free cop, who killed hubby

CEBU, Philippines - The policewoman who killed her husband is not yet off the hook as Cebu Provincial Police Office director Patrocinio Comendador ordered to pursue the investigation and file criminal charges if necessary.

Comendador made the order despite the absence of complainants because of the lack of interest of the parents and siblings of Elmar Amoren to file a case against Police Officer 1 Chona Amoren.

“This is a public crime and police can file a case even if victim’s parents are no longer interested,” Comendador said.

Comendador however said they need to establish enough evidence to charge the policewoman. PO1 Amoren will also face administrative investigation before the Police Regional Office-7.

PO1 Amoren is currently detained at the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office for killing her husband Friday last week. The policewoman claimed she did not intend to kill her husband.

According to her, she was just trying to protect herself and their daughter from the victim who allegedly wanted to hurt them. PO1 Amoren said her husband was drunk and tried to get her service firearm from the drawer where she kept it resulting to a scuffle between them.

The policewoman said the firearm accidentally went off in the process hitting the victim in the stomach. Elmar was taken to the Mactan Doctor’s Hospital but he later expired.

Meanwhile, a barangay tanod who allegedly killed a police asset last year was arrested yesterday morning in Sitio Sakaan, Barangay Tabunok, Sogod.

Dario Pepito, 48, was arrested on a strength of the warrant of arrest for murder issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Sylva Paderanga in Danao City. Pepito was accused of killing his neighbor Felipe Impas in October 1, 2010 because of personal grudge.  (FREEMAN)
