CEBU, Philippines - The Department of Tourism praised Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia for her support to the Philippine tourism when she promoted it during one of her foreign media interviews.

DOT director and group head for Europe, India and Middle East, Verna Covar-Buensuceso, thank Garcia for granting interview to UK Travel Channel’s It’s a Woman’s World on May 6.

It was the first of the two interviews Garcia had just this month by foreign media as she was again interviewed yesterday by Phil So Good, a bi-monthly travel and education magazine circulated in Korea.

In her letter to Garcia, Buensuceso expressed her appreciation to Garcia for her support for Philippine tourism.

“It’s a Woman’s World: Philippines will be aired in the fourth quarter of this year in Europe, Africa, Middle East and Australia providing good mileage for the country,” she said.

Yesterday, Garcia was again interviewed on “political endeavors in ensuring that the Province of Cebu becomes the strongest, if not, sustain its being the most sought-after province in the entire country and even the world.

The Philippine episode UK Travel Channel’s It’s a Woman’s World is to be aired on television in October or November this year in 120 countries.

The producer of the program, Julia Cornes, also conveyed her thanks to Garcia saying they had a great time filming with her.

“It was really great to find out more about your work, such a perfect story for our programme,” Cornes said in a letter.

Aside from the interview of how Garcia is able to excel as first woman governor of Cebu, a special arrangement was also made for the coverage of the world famous dancing inmates of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center.

“Thank you for joining us at the rehabilitation center, very interesting getting to know the background to the internet sensation,” Cornes added.

The director of the program, Camilla Andersen, during their visit in Cebu was quoted as saying that the dancing inmates were the most incredible things she had seen.

She added that the unique rehabilitation program of the CPDRC would help improve the morale of the prisoners.

The provincial inmates gained a worldwide celebrity status when the video of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” was posted on YouTube and garnered more than 15 million views in 2007.

During the visit of the crew of “It’s a Woman’s World” the CPDRC inmates performed “Hot, hot, hot,” “They Don’t Care About Us,” and “Just the Way You Are”. (FREEMAN)
