CEBU, Philippines - With the assumption of Vice Governor Agnes Magpale in her new position, reorganization among the committees in the Provincial Board will be expected.
Magpale announced that she will be giving up some of her committee chairmanship except the Committee on Women, Family and Minors.
Other committee currently chaired by Magpale is the Committee on Tourism and International Affairs.
She is vice chairperson of the Committee on Arts and Culture and member of the Committee on Public Health and Social Welfare; Laws and Review of Ordinances; Public Affairs and Information; Agriculture and Livelihood; Budget and Appropriations; Education; Ways and Means; Cooperatives; Senior Citizens; and Differently Abled Persons.
Magpale explained that it is inevitable to have reorganization considering her status now as the vice governor and the presiding officer of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.
Her predecessor, the late vice governor Gregorio Sanchez, Jr., did not hold any committee chairmanship and the PB internal house rules also say so.
But Magpale said she will ask her colleagues that she will retain the Committee on Women, Family and Minors which she has headed for a long time now because of her strong advocacy on women and children’s rights.
Magpale is also the co-chairperson of the Provincial Women’s Commission and the Provincial Council for the Protection of Children.
Another reason she wants to hold on to this committee are the pending cases in court which her group is pursuing.
Magpale is also active in the anti-human trafficking task force created by Governor Gwendolyn Garcia. – (FREEMAN)
