Fire razes 3 houses in Brgy Kamputhaw

- Ria Mae Y. Booc -

CEBU, Philippines - Three houses have been razed by an early morning fire believed to have been caused by a lighted candle in sitio Buli, Barangay Kamputhaw Cebu City yesterday.

The fire started at the house owned by Clint Caballero and quickly spread towards the other two houses nearby. The Cebu City Fire Department received the fire alarm at 3:37 a.m. and declared it under control after eight minutes.

Senior Police Officer 1 Leo Magallon said they were able to totally put out the fire an hour after.

Magallon said they are still conducting investigation to determine the cause of the fire. He however said that based on the initial information they have gathered it was possible that a lighted candle in Caballero’s house started the fire.

According to Magallon, Caballero has been using candles at night since Monday after the Visayan Electric Company disconnected his power supply because of unpaid electric bills.

“Pangagpas namo possible natumba ang kandila o nahilis unya wala mabantayi,” Magallon said.

The fire department has pegged the damage at P150,000. There was no reported injury during the fire. — (FREEMAN)
