Inventory sought
CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Councilor Roberto Cabarrubias yesterday asked the city engineering department to conduct an inventory of its drainage materials found at the storage facility in South Road Properties.
Cabarrubias told the City Council that while they are conserving government materials, there are several culverts, steel bars and hollow blocks at the storage facility that have been put to waste because they were left unused.
“I wonder why we have a lot of stocks. As you can observe, there are a lot of improvement to be done in the area, especially for the programming of the materials and how they are being stored in our facility. If we quantify the amount down the drain, then it’s a pure waste of government funds,” said Cabarrubias, chairman of the committee on infrastructure.
During his inspection, Cabarrubias also notice the substandard hollow blocks. “Dali ra kaayo mabungkag,” he said.
Cabarrubias said he wants city engineer Kenneth Enriquez to conduct an inventory of hollow blocks and the beneficiaries, cements and the beneficiaries, concrete culverts, and steel bars.
“Why accept substandard hollow blocks? Why is it that there are a lot of culverts? Why so many steel bars. I humbly request our city engineer Kenneth Enriquez and head of Department of Welfare and Urban Poor to shed light on this issue,” Cabarrubias said.
Enriquez is expected to submit next week his recommendations, implementation plan that included time line for every activity. (FREEMAN)
