Two bus drivers positive in random drug test

CEBU, Philippines - Two bus drivers were tested positive during a random drug test that the Land Transportation Office-7 conducted yesterday in the terminals as part of the agency’s safety measures for the passengers during the Holy Week.

LTO-7 director Raul Aguilos said a mini bus driver bound for Carcar City tested positive at the South Bus Terminal while an Auto Bus Driver in the North Bus Terminal was also found positive of drug use.

Aguilos said their licenses were confiscated while the results of the test will be submitted for confirmatory examinations. According to Aguilus, if confirmed, their licenses will be revoked.

The commuters and even bus drivers themselves commended the LTO-7 officials for the undertaking.

“Okay kaayo kay aron mahibaw-an tu’ng mga abusado nga mga drivers,” bus driver Agripino Santillas said.

Santillas added that it is a good move of the LTO since it will benefit the passengers whose safety depends on the drivers. Another bus driver Rolando Nuñez, 52, who has been driving public buses since 1999, echoed Santillas’ observation.

Nuñez said, prohibiting drug addict drivers from driving will lessen the possibility of road mishaps.

“Maayo kay mogamay ng mga pasaway sa dan,” bus driver Lestor Sacoram added.

Passenger Marilyn Alabastro, 21, said she is pleased with the random drug test because it will ensure their safety from drug addict drivers.

“It is good because it will let the passengers be away from danger.” —(FREEMAN)
