Joavan accused of slapping guard

CEBU, Philippines - Joavan Fernandez, the controversial son of Talisay City Mayor Socrates Fernandez, was accused of slapping a security guard of a subdivision in Barangay Bulacao, Talisay City, last Monday night.

Hipolito Abe, 47, of the K and L Security Agency, told the Talisay City police that Joavan, got mad after he refused to open the subdivision gates for him.

Hipolito is one of the new guards posted in Vista Grande Subdivision’s front gate.

The subdivision homeowners association had issued a ban against Joavan’s entry following a number of complaints against him. Joavan lives in his father’s “house of prayer” situated just outside the Vista Grande compound.

For one to get there, however, he has to pass through the subdivision gate.

During his few months’ stay there, according to the homeowners, Joavan, who usually uses a sports utility vehicle, drives like crazy and breaks the peace and tranquility of the place.

Last December, after he allegedly pointed a gun at Raymund Paran, an attendant of the subdivision clubhouse, the homeowners decided to prohibit him from entering the subdivision.

Paran, however, filed his affidavit of desistance after reportedly receiving P4,000 cash from Joavan just days after he formally filed charges against him.

Ederlinda Anderson, the homeowners’ association president, said the ban is still effective and they have no intention of lifting it. 

Meanwhile, Senior Insp. Errol Francis Deveyra, acting city police chief, said they are still waiting for Abe to return to the station with his medical certificate to prove Joavan slapped him in the left cheek. – (FREEMAN)
