Police recover 12 stolen cars

- Geraldine C. Mapula -

CEBU, Philippines - Highway Patrol Group chief operation officer Chief Insp. Eduardo Mara said they have recovered 12 stolen vehicles from different parts of the province from January to March 31 this year.

These vehicles are two Mitsubishi Pajeros, a Toyota Revo, a Mitsubishi Lancer, an Isuzu Crosswind, a Mitsubishi Adventure, a Honda CRV, a Toyota Vios, a Suzuki Jitney, a Nissan Urvan, a Hyundai Grand Starex and a Mitsubishi L300 which are now in Camp Sotero Cabahug.

Mara said while car theft is not an alarming occurrence in Cebu Province, Region 7 is considered as a drop-off site for stolen vehicles from Manila.

The police are now in the process of tracing the owners of the stolen vehicles, but Mara said so far no one has approached them to claim any of the vehicles yet.

Mara added that they will also conduct seminars, intensify anti-carnapping drives, distribute anti-carnapping flyers and do some pro-active operations such as checkpoints in different areas of the province.

They are also planning to go to Negros Oriental to conduct seminars regarding carnapping.

Mara encouraged the public to check vehicles before buying them to make sure that the vehicles are not stolen. (FREEMAN)
