City accounting office gets new head
CEBU, Philippines - Assistant budget officer Marietta Gomiya who has served the city government for 27 years, has been appointed head of the city accounting office.
Gomiya assumed her new position yesterday, the same time her predecessor, Arlene Rentuza, assumed as head of the Internal Audit System.
Rentuza was about to resign from the city government, but Mayor Michael Rama rejected her resignation and appointed her to the Internal Audit System.
In a press conference yesterday, Rama said he chose Gomiya for the post because of her experience and expertise. She has been with the accounting department since 1984.
“She has a chance to do her job. She is capable,” Rama said.
Gomiya started work with the city government first as chief of the finance control division. She also served as officer-in-charge of the department during the time of city accountant Edna Jaca. In 2001, she was designated as assistant budget officer.
Also yesterday, Rama announced that the position of head of the Human Resources Development Office (HRDO) is open after lawyer Mary Ann Suson failed to get confirmation from the City Council as permanent head of the department.
Assistant City Administrator Veronica Morellos is reportedly interested in the position, something that Rama said he will support, considering Morellos was named outstanding assistant department head during the last 74th Cebu City Charter Day last February. The Council did not confirm Suson’s appointment as permanent head of HRDO owing to lack of experience. She was temporarily replaced by Celso Esteban Jimenea, the assistant department head II of HRDO.
It was City Councilor Sisinio Andales who moved against Suson’s confirmation, saying she only has six months of experience as officer-in-charge. (FREEMAN)
