Schools, brgys to get extinguishers
CEBU, Philippines - In the interest of disaster preparedness and fire safety, the Cebu City government has purchased 6,000 fire extinguishers that will be given to the different schools, barangays and other government agencies.
Of the 6,000 fire extinguishers, 961 will be distributed to 76 public elementary and high schools while 40 will be distributed to the Cebu City Police Office.
The remaining fire extinguishers will be distributed to the different barangays.
City Councilor Joey Daluz, who filed the three separate resolutions approved by the city council, said the amount spent for the extinguishers was taken from the Supplemental Budget No. 5 that reached to P10.8 million.
The purchase of fire extinguisher was supposed to be done May last year but it was halted after Cebu City South Dist. Rep. Tomas Osmeña accused former Association of Barangay Councils president Eugenio Faelnar of alleged anomalous purchases of fire extinguishers in the city’s barangays.
A memorandum of agreement is expected to be signed between Mayor Michael Rama and CCPO Director Melvin Buenafe, Cebu City Superintendent of Department of Education Rhea Mar Angtud and the barangays captains, for the deed of donations to the fire extinguisher. (FREEMAN NEWS)
