City's barangays to get fire extinguishers

CEBU, Philippines - Mayor Michael Rama yesterday entered into a memorandum of agreement with 80 barangay captains of the city for the proper distribution of fire extinguishers.

The move came after the city government purchased 6,000 fire extinguishers for the different sitios and barangay.

Under the agreement, each sitio and barangay will receive one and five units each, respectively.

Aside from the MOA, the city government also signed a deed of donation agreement with 80 barangay captains in the city.

“Please take case of the fire extinguishers,” Rama told the barangay captains during the MOA signing.

The MOA said the barangay captains are designated accountable officer as they will be responsible in the safekeeping and maintenance of fire extinguishers.

“Also make sure that the units would be available for use anytime when the need arises,” Rama added. Personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection also briefed the barangay leaders on the proper usage of fire extinguishers.

“Kinahanglang ma maximize ang paggamit sa fire extinguishers kun ma-distributed na ni sa mga sitio dako kaayo ni ug gamit ngadto nila . Ang importante nga mapawong na ang kayo inig abot sa fire truck,” city fire marshal Aderson Comar said.

The distribution of fire extinguishers is scheduled on March 21 to 24 at the Dep-Ed-Labangon warehouse. Yesterday’s MOA signing was witnessed by councilors Eduardo Rama, Jose Daluz III, Nida Cabrera and ABC president Michael Ralota.

The first 10 barangays to receive the units will be barangays Adlaon, Agsungot, Apas, Babag, Bacayan, Banilad, Basak San Nicolas, Basak Pardo, Binaliw and Bonbon. — (FREEMAN)
