Ouano elected director of local lady legislators

-

CEBU, Philippines - Mandaue City Councilor Emmarie “Lolypop” Ouano-Dizon yesterday took her oath of office as board of director for the Visayas of the Local Lady Legislators of the Philippines.

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia administered the oath to Dizon at the Governor’s Office.

Dizon said that as officer of 4L, she will have access to a wider community of women lawmakers where she can share and gain ideas to promote the welfare of women, children and family not only for Mandaue City but for the entire province.

Dizon, a first-termer councilor, is also a member of the BOD of the Philippine Councilors League – Cebu Province chapter and is the only daughter of Provincial Board Member Thadeo Ouano.

Dizon vowed to work on existing laws designed for the protection and in support of women and mothers.

“It is not sufficient to write more laws, it is equally imperative that existing laws be implemented,” Dizon said.

She cited Republic Act 8722 promulgated on February 20, 1995 which provides assistance to women engaged in micro and cottage business enterprises that if fully implemented would address poverty among women.

“Education and the dissemination of information is a necessary first step,” Dizon said adding that a lot of women are not aware of the law.

Dizon offers herself as a venue for her constituents to air their voice and link with her fellow legislators to have a concerted effort in advancing their ideas and objectives.

Dizon was elected to the position during the 4L national convention held at Bayview Hotel in Manila last week. — (FREEMAN)
